CVTracker Support Files
2.1 What support files or
sample files does CVTracker come equipped with? |
CVTrackerTM
comes equipped with a fully functional database based on MS Access®
technology. The software comes pre-equipped with samples of all
forms including goals, templates, and dictionary files. Your
database will come pre-configured with sample data that you can

that does not need to be reset unless major changes take place with
your operating system or similar. You can open this website and
go to customer service to file an Issue under these
circumstances. Customer Service Issues

Accessing Help
2.2 How do I get help on
CVTracker? |
The
software comes equipped with a fully functional help system that uses a
proprietary help retrieval system and .cvh help files. This
system was designed to be more efficient and faster than Microsoft's
Help system or third party vendor systems, yet remains easy and simple
to use. The help system comes equipped with a search mechanism
that will quickly find the terms you are seeking.

User Profiling
2.6 Explain what user
profiling is? |
The User Profile is a powerful self-definition tool that
allows you to record personal achievements using the
Problem-Action-Results (PAR)method that evaluates your entries based on
accomplishments you have achieved in the past. These are then
recorded, categorized, tabulated by date, and then evaluated against
your current database of positions and against job criteria for over 30
different job definitions. The evaluations will show what types
of jobs match closest to your PAR entry and exactly which jobs in your
database also match well with the entry. From there it's up to
you as to how you want to use the information. The User profile
can be a powerful way of developing your resume and accessing data
about yourself rapidly.
|
User Profiling vs
Company/Position Profiling
2.7 What is the difference
between user profiling or company/position profiling? |
Just as you profile your personal achievements with User
profile, you can profile companies and positions with the company and
position profiler. By setting various criteria questions (with
answers) you can customize the specific details of how you want your
preferred company or position to be like. From there, as you
enter new data about companies or positions, you can click the profile
button and enter profiles for the companies you research and the
positions you become knowledgeable about. At that point you will
be able to target companies that fit closely with your preferences
rather than waste time on companies with very different cultures or
criteria than where you'd like to work. You can also set criteria
for positions and view them in graphical form to see how a particular
position in a particular company matches your preferences and select
positions that are more appropriate for you.
The user profile is does not match against your preferences, but
against general guidelines and it matches your experiences only in
terms of the PAR method.

Goals
2.8 How can I review my
goals? |
Open the Goals screen from the toolbar or menu, then use the
browser to select a .cvg file. If no .cvg files are available,
create one by opening the browser and typing in the name of a file you
would like to create. Then select the criteria you want to
determine your goals. These criteria would include items such as
number of Companies entered in the database over a specific time
period, or New contacts you've added over the last month. You are
required to enter time/date criteria for goal setting. Then click
on extract to see how you're doing. You can chart your goals and
how well you're doing by clicking on Chart from the goals screen.
|
Target Companies
2.9 What are target
companies as opposed to companies in my database? |
Target companies are companies that you select as specific
targets that you want to contact because you would like to work in
those target company environments. Companies in your general
database are those companies where you have already researched, found
contacts, and/or have established some relationship with. Not all
target companies may be in your general database, but as you make
contacts, you may find that a target company is available and you will
be able to review the updated information as needed. It is
important to focus your job search campaign on the companies that are
important to you. You may also list data about the company in the
target companies screen.
Target companies will become downloadable in the near future based on a
subscription based service - this should simplify the task of
researching and finding general information regarding the companies.

Action Plan Items
2.10 How do I set up
specific action plan items? |
Action plan items can be set up by clicking on an action
plan item in one of the four sub-categories and subsequently dragging
the category symbol or the symbol at the top of the category into a
phase box at the top row of the screen. You may have up to 5
indicators per phase that will be used as primary criteria for
evaluating your performance within that phase.
You may delete a specific action plan selection by double clicking on
it within one of the phase boxes.
|
Options
2.11 What do I need to set
in the options screen? |
The options screen provides advanced users with several
features that can be useful. You are able to set interval times for
your event reminders. You may change autosave
functionality. You can set the level of evaluation for user
profiles from detailed to general and vice versa. You may also
configure specific locations for browsers. You are not required
to configure anything except the PDF browser from the options screen,
but only if you wish to access document files that are in PDF format or
the documentation for the software.
|
Data Transfer
2.12 Can I transfer data
to other users, say members in my networking group? |
The CVTracker (Gold version 1.9.1) is designed to allow easy
export of data into XML format files. CVTracker LITE does not
support data import/export. The CVTracker creates an XML file
with all your data in your database, including companies, contacts,
positions, addresses, and contact histories. You may then
transfer the XML file to anybody you know who has the CVTracker and
they will be able to import specific data about companies, contacts,
contact histories, and addresses only. The transfer will NOT
allow all your data such as documents information or user profile
information to be imported into their databases automatically.
Version 2.0 of CVTracker is expected to have an email client that will
access data from a website/common node to immediately transfer data to
each other. The email client will operate similar to a business
card that will allow for easy transferring of specific data about
contacts that you've interacted with and wish to share with others.
|
Send/Receive Email
2.13 Does CVTracker allow
me to send and receive Email? |
The current version of CVTracker (v.1.9.2 and v.1.9.3) are
not fitted with the email client yet. It is expected the next
major release (version 2) should contain an email client for both
receiving and sending email. You will have to configure an SMTP
server and POP mailboxes for accessibility. This feature is
separate from Microsoft Outlook import and export capabilities.
It is expected this version will also contain direct email capabilities
and access to emails from Microsoft Outlook as well.
|
Import Text Files
2.14 Can I import data
from a text file into CVTracker? |
Currently CVTracker v.1.9.1 is enabled to import data from
CSV files, Microsoft Excel® spreadsheets, CVTracker XML Data files,
and Microsoft Outlook® address books. This will be expanded
in Version 2.0 to include PDA synchronization and other file
formats. Plain text files can be imported only if they are in CSV
form (Comma separated variables) where a sample line in the text file
would be:
John, Doe, 123 Main
Street, Los Angeles, California, 90210, …
New Company,
Pharmaceuticals, 123 Main Street, Los Angeles, California, 90210, …
Each entry would require comma delimited separation (delimiters may be
other than a comma in Version 2.0) between entries and these have to be
consistent throughout the file. Make sure to read/examine how to
transform data from CSV files into data entries and import data into
the CVTracker from the User Manual.
|
Print Out Data
2.15 Can I print out my
data from CVTracker? |
You may currently print out data within forms already
available using the Print command in the command menu.
With this function you may Print
Form where CVTracker will print the existing, displayed data on
the specified
selected screens. This includes only the Company, Contact,
Position, Document, and Pipeline screens.
You may Print Report where you will
be asked to select a report type, enter a heading and select whether you want page numbers or not. This will print
the most important information regarding Companies, Contacts,
Positions, or Target Companies only.
You may set the Print Setup
to set up your print format and the printer you intend to send data to.
Version 2 is expected to have a more robust print reporting mechanism
for your use with varying data sets.
